Tomas Doncker: Power of the Trinity

"Tomas Doncker - Power of the Trinity"

Tomas Doncker’s new album, “Power of the Trinity”, has been described by Tadias Magazine as “as much a tribute to Ethiopia and its history as it is a soulful blend of R&B, spoken word and global urban sounds.”

This fall Tomas Doncker releases his new album ‘Power of the Trinity’. On this album he works with various Ethiopian and international artist like “Gigi”, Senegalese percussionist Aiyb Dieng, Selam Woldemariam and Yusef Komunyakaa. With these artist he created an album which is a fusion of homegrown R&B and African beats and melodies, where global soul fits the bill.

Inspired by the life and teachings of H.I.M. Haile Selassie, the core message of “Power of the Trinity” is to do what is right, no matter what; a message as relevant today as ever. “We all know what is right and what is wrong”, says Doncker,”Haile Selassie, in the face of the world, stood up for what is right and that is basically what this album is about- standing up for what is right, against all odds”.

The fusion of western R&B and African/Ethiopian rhythm and blues features contributions from Ethiopian superstar Gigi, Ethiopian R&B legend Selam Seyoum Woldemariam. Although Doncker’s career has seen him in the studio with legends from Bootsy Collins to Yoko Ono, of this project Tomas says, “Working along side these giants of music, literature and contemporary culture has been one of the highlights of my life and career, and I am honored to share this journey, from Brooklyn to Ethiopia, into the heart and soul of the conscious groove”

‘Power of the Trinity’ sparks a journey beyond ourselves. In 2010, Doncker performed in China as a heading act at the Shanghai Folk Festival, and in front of an audience of over 100,000 as part of the Shanghai World Expo.
